Abstract

Alejandra Abarca Rentería has always been a goal-driven person. Her determination and strength motivated her to leave her small town - La Placita de Morelos, Michoacán - to become a teacher at the University of Colima. From humble origins, she is the first and only one of ten siblings to achieve a university education. “Abarca is a woman of independent, introspective and free thinking. Her creativity, passion and analytical nature are grounded in her academic work. The responsibility with which she has taken her art -reflected in her magnificent paintings- has served, perhaps unwittingly, as a role model for young people to follow.
