Abstract

Based on some aspects of the author’s family history, this essay reflects on forms of female resistance in the face of masculine violence. Gender places women at a disadvantage given the power held by men in their role of «breadwin ner.» Nevertheless, women mobilize strategies that corrupt such power. Several factors influen ce this process: children’s physical and emotio nal growth; the augmentation of women earnings; and the loss of men’s physical and symbolic strength; dynamics that open possibilities for «family empowerment.»
