From their own voices. Women day laborers and violence in Baja California Sur
Keywords:
migrants, violence, womenAbstract
I will present the first results of a research carried out in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur in 2003 on violence against the women of a migrant day laborer population that works and resides in two communities of an agricultural company that has been operating for several decades in the state. The company hires up to 3,000 workers: men, women, girls, and boys from the south of the country to produce vegetables for export during planting and harvest seasons. The objective of the study was to know, from the voices of the women themselves, the scope of the problem of violence in these communities in order to design an appropriate intervention model for this particular population.
