Abstract

The themes of poverty and migration have been little explored in young Mexican women’s written narrative. In some cases, as in the work of Socorro Venegas, such themes are depicted traditionally, as is gender—attributing men as provi ders and women as eternally waiting. In this article the theme of poverty in the book, La risa de las azucenas (The smile of white lilies) is analyzed using critical feminist literary theory.
