The incorporation of a gender perspective in international migration research

The case of the municipality of Tunkás in the Yucatán

Abstract

This qualitative approach work tackles the impact that international migration is generating in the families of the municipality of Tunkas, Yucatan. It particularly analyzes changes in relation to gender in the case of male migration. This research was done through in-depth interviews with the wives of the migrants. Among the findings, the benefits as well as the costs are highlighted regarding mental and physical health that migration is bringing along for migrant ´s couples and children.
