Letters to Richard: the discourse of the loving utopia
Keywords:
epistolary genre, Rosario Castellanos , utopia, romantic love, ambiguityAbstract
One of the objectives of this essay is to question the generic status of collections of letters by examining Cartas a Ricardo by Rosario Castellanos. This work is examined in the light of the theoretical contributions around the epistolary genre and the discourse of love, of the latter those contributed mainly by Roland Barthes. The main idea of the study is to demonstrate that ambiguity and fragmentation act as principles that explain Cartas a Ricardo, both compositionally and stylistically.
