Abstract

The first section presents ideas about the social construction of gender identities, social representations, masculinities and their analysis in order to frame the study. San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca, constitutes the research context in which the implementation of social representations of gender with its resulting machismo takes place, which although historically entail unequal relations, we also consider that in the face of current changes they have an important potential for transformation in order to achieve equity with social justice. The methodology used is qualitative and includes interviews, questionnaires, ethnographic work. It also includes elements of a local census.
