Abstract

Euphemisms are a phenomena present in every day language. In their formation, diverse phonological processes are used, such as elision, insertion, assimilation, dissimilation, and the reordering ofsegments. The objective of this work is to analyze some feminine euphemisms that in their formation, in addition to debilitating seg ments, also present palatization. For purposes of this study, a sample of Chilean and Mexican Spanish speakers was obtained to study different phonological processes utilized in the for mation of euphemisms. A list of the variants spoken in both countries is presented, as well as, a detailed analysis of those feminine names that as they are reduced to form the affective appellative modify some of its segments.
