Los Lennon Walls como búsqueda de la expresión de la identidad hongkonesa durante el movimiento social del año 2019

Resumen

Este artículo analiza el movimiento social en Hong Kong del año 2019 y su relación con las expresiones populares espontáneas manifestadas en diversos espacios públicos de la ciudad, conocidos como Lennon Walls. Basado en la premisa de que la identidad nacional es un constructo social imaginado, este artículo explora la relación entre la construcción de la identidad hongkonesa como distinta de la identidad china y la manera en que esta diferenciación se reflejó de forma creativa y espontánea en más de cien espacios públicos que fueron transformados en sitios de expresión pacífica de resistencia en Hong Kong. Para ello, se discute teóricamente la relación entre democracia, movimientos sociales y la búsqueda de una identidad hongkonesa, para posteriormente abordar las demandas y características específicas de las manifestaciones del año 2019. Más adelante, se analizan los llamados Lennon Walls como espacios de expresión de una identidad hongkonesa que se sustenta en la búsqueda por la democracia como un aspecto fundamental de su identidad. Por último, se concluye que, debido a esta identidad nacional, los llamados Lennon Walls representan un eslabón en una cadena más grande que implica el difícil equilibrio para los ciudadanos hongkoneses de ser parte de un Estado más amplio como el de China.
