Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI)

The journal GénEroos is governed by the principles of academic integrity and editorial transparency established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Within this framework, we define the following policies on the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools in the preparation of manuscripts.

1. Permitted use of GAI

The use of GAI tools is authorized only as technical support, in the following functions:

  • Spelling and grammar correction.

This includes detecting and correcting punctuation, accentuation, agreement, and/or syntax errors.

  • Verification, correction, and formatting of citations and bibliographic references.

This refers to the use of tools to standardize citation style, complete missing bibliographic data, or verify that cited sources are correctly referenced.

Any intervention involving content writing, reformulation of arguments, idea generation, or modification of authorial style is not permitted.

2. Non-permitted use of GAI

The use of GAI for content generation, writing, rewriting, or reformulation is not allowed, which includes, among other aspects:

  • Introduction, discussion, analysis, and/or conclusions.
  • Development of ideas, arguments, results, or interpretations.
  • Automated writing or rewriting of entire sections.
  • Changes that alter the style, tone, authorial voice, or argumentative coherence of the text.

Such interventions compromise the authorial originality and the academic identity of the manuscript and constitute a violation of our editorial policies.

3. Editorial evaluation of GAI use

The editorial team may carry out various actions to verify compliance with this policy, including:

  • Analysis of the style, structure, tone, and argumentative construction of the manuscript.
  • Comparison with the author’s previous publicly available works.
  • Use of automated tools to detect GAI-generated content.

If indications of improper use are identified, clarification may be requested from the author. If unauthorized use is confirmed, the text will be rejected.

4. Mandatory declaration

During manuscript submission, authors must explicitly declare whether they have used GAI tools, detailing the type and extent of assistance provided.

This declaration must be made through the journal’s official originality letter, submitted along with the manuscript. In this document:

  • It is specified whether any GAI tool was used and which one.
  • The specific functions are indicated:
    • Spelling and grammar correction
    • Verification, correction, and formatting of citations and references
  • An additional space is included where authors may describe other specific uses of GAI within the manuscript, if applicable. In such cases, the Editorial Team and Editorial Board will evaluate the use and determine whether it complies with the journal’s editorial policies.

Omission or falsification in this declaration will be considered an ethical violation and may result in editorial actions, including rejection of the manuscript.

5. Sanctions for improper use

If unauthorized use of GAI is determined, the journal may apply the following measures, depending on the severity of the case:

  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript.
  • Request for rewriting without GAI intervention (in minor cases).
  • Temporary suspension from future submissions.

All editorial decisions are final and non-appealable.

6. Responsibility of authors

The use of GAI tools does not exempt authors from full responsibility for the content of the manuscript. This includes:

  • The originality of the text.
  • Argumentative clarity.
  • Stylistic coherence.
  • Accuracy and reliability of the information presented.
