Declaración de buenas prácticas editoriales
CODE OF ETHICS
PORTES, Mexican Journal of Studies on the Pacific Basin, adheres to the code of ethics for the conduct and performance of the actors involved in the publication process of this journal (editors, editorial committee, authors, and reviewers) established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, COPE), which can be consulted at www.publicationethics.org.
ANTI-PLAGIARISM POLICY
The authors of the manuscripts are entirely responsible for the content of their contributions, as well as for ensuring that they are original and unpublished.
As a policy for the prevention of plagiarism, the journal reserves the right to review all manuscripts submitted for publication using Turnitin, specialized anti-plagiarism software, applying the usual criteria to detect such practices. A basic guide on the most common plagiarism practices can be found on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) website.
In case of detecting a suspected practice of redundant publication, suspected plagiarism, plagiarism, suspected data fabrication, authorship conflict, and/or ethical conflicts in the manuscript, it will be reviewed by the editorial committee and the journal’s management, and depending on its severity, a sanction will be determined. This will be done in accordance with and adherence to the main practices in research ethics of COPE.
Therefore, PORTES, Mexican Journal of Studies on the Pacific Basin, commits to an editorial policy based on honesty and excellence, for which coordinators, editors, reviewers, and authors assume the following responsibilities:
Ensure originality and avoid plagiarism in the writings published in the journal PORTES, respecting citation norms and the parameters required by the publication when submitting a manuscript, all with the intention of respecting the work of other cited authors, as well as guaranteeing the originality of the proposed hypotheses and the veracity of the data provided by the content creators.
Authors must commit not to produce multiple, repetitive, and simultaneous works on the topics published by PORTES, as this flagrantly undermines the originality of the work and may lead to an alteration of results by the authors.
It is essential that authors participating in the publication of PORTES confirm the veracity in the development of their research work, including databases, theoretical references, and empirical data, as this scientifically verifies the hypotheses.
Authors must always provide the correct indication of the sources and contributions mentioned in the article.
It is also crucial to highlight the authorship of the manuscripts used as support, making it indispensable to reference those who have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution to the conceptualization and planning of the work, as well as in the interpretation of the results and the writing of the manuscript.
Regarding the work of the editors of PORTES, if deemed necessary, article writers must also make available the sources or data on which the research is based, a situation that can be maintained for a reasonable period after publication and possibly made accessible for future research.
Concerning potential conflicts of interest and disclosure, authors are required to explicitly declare that there are no such conflicts that may have influenced the results obtained or the interpretations proposed, and must indicate any funding from agencies and/or projects from which the research article submitted to the journal PORTES arises.
In the event of errors in published articles, when an author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy attributable to the journal’s editors in their writing, they must immediately inform the publication coordinator to correct these deficiencies or, in any case, publish an “erratum” or clarification based on the information provided by the article’s author within a reasonable time frame.
It should be emphasized that all authors accept responsibility for what they have written in their scientific work, and they also commit to conducting a review of the most current and relevant scientific literature on the analyzed topic, considering different currents of knowledge in a plural manner.
Regarding delivery times, a reviewer who does not feel competent in the subject matter to be reviewed or who cannot complete the evaluation due to force majeure within the scheduled time must immediately notify the journal’s coordination.
In this regard, reviewers commit to evaluating the works as quickly as possible to respect the delivery deadlines, given that the custody limits of manuscripts awaiting review are limited and inflexible out of respect for the authors and their work.
Each assigned manuscript must be considered confidential. The text evaluation system is “double-blind,” ensuring the confidentiality of the process. Therefore, these texts should not be discussed, under any circumstances, with other people without the express consent of the editors and authors.
The review will be conducted by specialists who will perform their work objectively, so it is not appropriate to present personal judgments about the authors of the contributions.
Reviewers are required to provide sufficient reasons for their evaluations. Reviewers will deliver a complete critical report with appropriate references according to the PORTES review protocol and public guidelines for reviewers, especially if it is proposed that the work be rejected. PORTES values the effort and attention in the work entrusted to reviewers, who, if they detect research misconduct in any text, must report it directly and immediately to the editorial coordination. Reviewers’ personal data and review reports are confidential and will be safeguarded by the coordination; in case of any inconvenience and/or authorship claim, these documents can only be disclosed with the express written authorization of the reviewer.
In case of conflicts of interest and disclosure during the peer review process, it should be considered confidential and cannot be used for personal purposes.
Reviewers will only examine a manuscript if there are no conflicts of interest.
Editors have the authority to authorize or deny the publication of any work.
The journal’s coordination commits to ensuring the selection of the most qualified and scientifically specialized reviewers to provide a critical and expert assessment of the work.
The editors of PORTES will evaluate the articles submitted for publication solely based on the scientific merit of the content, without discrimination based on race, creed or ideological tendency, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, or nationality.
Regarding deadlines, editors and authors are ultimately responsible for meeting the time limits for reviews and the publication of accepted works, to ensure the prompt dissemination of their results within the deadlines and formats established by the journal’s previously established regulations.
Once the works are approved through review, the authors will sign a letter of originality and publication authorization, prepared by the General Directorate of Publications of the University of Colima.
Once the work is published, the author(s) may use the material to publish it on blogs, social networks, institutional repositories, or other digital media, as long as they cite the original source and give the necessary credits.
