Abstract

The 20th National Congress of the CCP culminated with the election of Xi Jinping as General Secretary of the Party. The event marked the contemporary history of China; for, after Mao and even before Xi, the general secretaries were elected twice; this election took place in a peculiar context that will determine the performance of the PRCh head of state.

The analysis of that context is the main purpose of this work; to study it, we propose two important dimensions: first, China’s current situation in the international economic system; therefore, despite the triumphant rhetoric of the speech presented before the 20th Congress of the CPC, the international situation seems to limit future achievements in terms of economic growth and income distribution.
