China and Global Governance: Three Years into the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s Operations

In recent years, there has been great debate in regards to global governance in the field of international relations. Within these documents, the research that analyzes how the Popular Republic of China has related in relation to global governance stands out. In this sense, this article deals with this discussion and seeks to answer by way of what strategy does China get involved in this process. With the objective of contributing to this debate, this research proposes to study the case of the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank (AIIB). After analyzing the objectives behind the creation of this bank, its institutional design, its relation to other organisms, the countries that comprise it, and the way it has performed in the first three years, it has been concluded that the strategy that China has used is proposing new initiatives which adhere additional layers to global governance which complement the current institutions. Conversely to how it is posed in by a great part of the document, we make the argument that within the case study, a deep questioning of global governing is not caried out.
