Abstract

Twentieth-century Mexican cinema is built from the hullabaloo of the fiesta, the roar of the rockets, from regional folkloric dances to ballroom dancing, the shout of the mariachis, the dreaminess of carnival. But along with the vocals of the fiesta and the celebration, Mexican cinema has also explored the nostalgia and melancholy of the Day of the Dead.
