Incidence of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on the competitiveness of export companies in the Colombian banana sector, 2021-2022
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main objective of this study was to determine the incidence of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on the competitiveness of export companies in the Colombian banana sector, during the period 2021-2022, using international relations theories: Liberal and realist, as well as theories of market shares and the comparative and competitive advantages of exports in the entire population made up of 24 banana companies concentrated in 1513 farms in Antioquia, Magdalena and Guajira - Colombia and recorded by DIAN, using data from DANE, Augura, Trade Map and International Trade Centre, to which a quantitative and descriptive method was applied, it was found that large exporting companies and SMEs were affected by economic losses due to the different current problems such as the pandemic period and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, decreasing its exports since 2020, recovering in 2021 and deepening the crisis again since March 2022, causing an economic loss in all companies and the exit of the market of 10 of them in December 2022, where it was seen most affected SCI Banafrut S.A. Given the above, this situation must be taken into account when deciding to invest in the production and export of bananas in order to obtain greater profitability in new and existing markets, for which it is recommended to carry out improvement strategies to anticipate the problems and look for markets that cover Colombian exports.
