Abstract

Members of the deaf community, as part of the broad group of people with disabilities, face considerable challenges in their quest for employment inclusion. It is therefore crucial to amplify the voices of deaf people and to expose, from their point of view, the demands on companies’ readiness for their inclusion in the labour market. This article presents the findings of a qualitative study that employed the methodological approach of data triangulation, involving three key stakeholders: deaf workers, their employers and workplace inclusion experts. Through semi-structured interviews with these groups, it identified the evident interest of deaf people in adapting job training processes, requesting interpreting services and seeking a commitment from companies to their specific needs, as well as recognition and respect for their culture through active preparation for inclusion. It was concluded that although there is an increased awareness of the importance of inclusion, significant barriers persist. Deaf people express the need for understanding and support in their work environment, requesting reasonable accommodation and Access to resources such as interpreters and assistive technologies.
