laborales, encontramos diferencias por
sexo: la paternidad aumenta la posibilidad
de que los varones permanezcan laborando,
entre 85 y 90% están ocupados remunera-
damente, aunque sus trabajos son de más
baja cualificación comparados con quienes
no son padres; mientras que la maternidad
disminuye hasta 50% la posibilidad de
estar empleadas con remuneración y les
incrementa la carga de trabajo doméstico
y de cuidados que asumen.

Introducción
D
esde la década de los sesenta, en México se ha registrado una dismi-
nución en las tasas de fecundidad, pasando de 7.4 hijos por mujer
a 2.3 hijos (INEGI, 2021); sin embargo, el segmento etario donde se
concentra el mayor número de nacimientos ha prevalecido inamovible
en el tiempo, siendo el que abarca de los 15 a los 29 años, edades en las
cuales se vive la juventud (Páez y Zavala, 2016).
Antes de seguir es preciso puntualizar a qué se refiere cuando se
habla de juventud, ¿por qué las edades que delimitan este período de vida
son tan difíciles de acordar? La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS)
refiere que la juventud es la edad biológica que inicia en la adolescencia
