Abstract

The evolution of logistics services in the ports of Mexico in the last 20 years has moved towards specialization and integration of services; there are companies within the logistics chain that focus specifically on serving import and
export markets for certain goods, such as perishables, bulk, steel, electronics, machinery, among others. On the other hand, it is increasingly common to find companies that offer the integration of logistics services, under the figure of a single provider; these types of companies have the necessary infrastructure and equipment to operate goods of different nature, so they do not specialize in any particular product, their value proposition lies in offering the importer and exporter all the required services to bring merchandise from the point of origin to the point of destination in a safe and timely manner. This service is
commonly referred to as Door-to-door logistics. In the process of importing and exporting merchandise, local land transport services are required; maneuvers in warehouses and ports; maritime, air or land transport; storage; of
Inspection; custody; insurance; monitoring; administrative management and customs agency; among others. These services can be contracted with different companies, or only one company can be hired that integrates most of
the services required and/or that serves as an intermediary for outsourcing, this is where the figure of the integrated logistics services company arises.
